Ambrosia is an American variety of fruit salad. Most ambrosia recipes contain: canned (often sweetened) or fresh pineapple, canned mandarin orange slices or fresh orange sections. This Ambrosia was one of the first to go at a recent salad/dessert bar I hosted. For personal preference I omitted half the coconut half the marshmallows half the cool whip the can of fruit cocktail. Dessert salads like Ambrosia salad were often on the menu, but never on my plate.
